Bikes Make People Happy

Having lived in the Bay Area for the last 5 years, the thing I despised the most (up until COVID) was the traffic. I’d sit in my car for long periods of time, feeling the frequent boredom, road rage, or sleepiness which contributed to reducing my quality of life.

Most people in the area commute to work by car since offices are spread apart. But if you’re amongst the lucky few who either 1) live close enough to the office to get there by bike, or 2) crazy enough to bike up and down the peninsula to get to work, chances are you’re a much happier human than the rest of the Bay Area population.

According to the Global Happiness Report from 2017, countries with high bicycle use were reported to be happiest. Places like Denmark & The Netherlands are famous for being the world's most bike-friendly nations, and always seem to be ranking at the top of the charts.

So simply put…
Bikes make people happy.

When you choose to ride a bike over driving a car or using public transportation, you’re not only making a positive environmental impact. Engaging in the physical activity also enhance your mood & health.

So next time you’re making a trip to run errands or heading out to the office (when all this COVID craziness settles down), consider riding your bike for a change. You might find yourself a lot happier.
